Shout out to Aurora for creating no neutral smart rotary dimmers Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT Wasn't sure where to put this so figured here would show of anyone searched this group or Google. So some keywords for that: zigbee dimmer switch uk no neutral I just got one to test the water as the market is thin for us in older houses that don't want to rewire nor pop stuff in the rose ceiling joint. I randomly found auroa during my many night time Google's looking for zigbee dimmers, they're presence was on page 8 of the dark web. Expensive, yes. Fit the bill, yes. 250w led or halogen max load. Suitable for UK, yes. Zigbee 3.0, yes. Router, yes. Dumb for normal people and guests, yes. Smart for smart prime people, yes. Ticked every box bar price but what else is on the market here, nothing. I got (you'll like this, just rolls off the tongue) a AU-A1ZB2WDM1P module with a plate. You can just get the module, slap it in on whatever plate you have providing there is room behind pop the nut on and be done. I have a standard UK box, you can rotate the module if wires come in through the bottom or top so there's space. Blue glow seeped through my back box from 76 so I used the modern faceplate, no bleed. Just a nice blue ring round the rotary that's not bright at all, just enough to see in the dark, not enough to glow the room up as it's in a bedroom this was important. I have it paired to a conbee 2 and that's on a pi3 running hassio. I'm planning on about 6 more as have 4 rotarys in the living room but expect if I ask nicely for a relatively moderate order I'll get a discount. [link] [comments]
Anyone have a Sonoff S31 with Tasmota that shows power usage in SmartThings? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 04:47 PM PDT I am using Tasmota (Connect) by Hontat and the S31 shows up in ST, and is controllable, but doesn't show power usage or voltage. I can see them on the Tasmota webpage though. Anyone have a different device handler or smartapp that works? [link] [comments]
What's the best option for a Chamberlain garage door, including keypad entry? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:46 PM PDT What's the best option for a Chamberlain garage door, including keypad entry? I'd hate to get into the myQ system, if there is a better option. I also would like some form of keypad entry on the exterior. Ideally, I would be able to sync up some of my Yale/August lock codes, but that is not a deal breaker. [link] [comments]
2020 Samsung Smart TVs and Alexa Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:45 PM PDT The new 2020 Samsung Smart TVs apparently come with built in Alexa (as well as Google and Bixby.) Are the TVs capable of replacing an Echo device and doing everything they can do with Alexa, or are the voice commands only for its own functions? [link] [comments]
WHA: Multizone Amps for Ceiling Speakers Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:31 PM PDT Hi, I just moved and am looking at options for feeding 3 pairs of ceiling speakers (Origin D61 6Ohm). We primarily use Alexa for streaming and would like to continue to use that for voice control. Also interested in a TV out feed for the outdoor speakers (looking at bluetooth transmitter). I would have loved to buy 1 Sonos Amp to power them all but am not willing to buy 2 to feed the 3 zones. With further research, I stumbled on some multizone amplifier recs from another subreddit and wanted to ask some questions about what the differences are if they would work they way I think they would. *Emotiva BasX A-400z $599 - 2 channel, 4 pairs of speakers 100WPC @8 Ohms --Seems like enough power, but no controller/app and only 2 zones *HTD MCA-66 $879 w controller vs DMA-1240 (no controller?) - 20WPC @ 8 Ohms --bit more expensive *Monoprice 6 zone id10761 $630+90 iTach - 25WPC @ 8 Ohms *Dayton MA1240a/1260 vs DAX66 - 40 WPC @ 8 Ohms; automatic on/off --Can I use this without a receiver or other controller by adding an echo dot to the bus input(s)? They all sort of blur together! I guess I need to know if these options all will feed the seemingly non-standard 6 Ohm speakers without issue. And which would have the best Alexa+ app control scheme. Also allow my TV output to somehow be fed back to the zone for the outdoor speakers but switch back to music when not watching TV. Thanks!! [link] [comments]
ilife a9 anyone else have this couple questions? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:54 PM PDT just got this and did the app set up, when it comes to mapping does it have on board memory, so the map it makes does it learn or get better or it just shows where it went on my phone? the sensor barrier do you leave it on, only when the vac is going? is there anything else cool it can do? after seeing the Roomba mapping where you can label rooms this seems pretty lame. i see an opption for mop on the app while theirs no reservoir on the dust tank? any tips? Can I configure a Sonoff Mini (with Tasmota and SmartThings) to turn the load on if power is reset? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 04:52 PM PDT My wife has a habit of leaving the bathroom light on, the switch is a combo with an outlet. My idea is to put the Sonoff Mini in the light housing and then set an Automation to turn off the light if left on for half an hour. But, I want the ability for her to just flip the switch off and back on again to turn the light back on. Is this an option? [link] [comments]
Innovelli And HomeSeer Switch Clicky Feels? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:27 AM PDT I apologize if this was answered somewhere else. I tried a few keyword searches but could not find a relevant post. I'm trying to get some feedback on how clicky the switches feel for these two brands. Here is a bit of information on my preferences so far: I checked out the Lutron Caseta switches at a Home Depot display and did not like the "flimsy/wobbly" feel of the buttons. On the other hand, someone had provided me with a few sample Leviton Decora smart switches which had a real nice tactile click and a solid bounce back that kept the switch in place once it popped back out. I noticed that the Innovelli and HomeSeer look more like normal light switches so I am hoping they are more tactile. Could someone who has them installed describe what it feels like to click them? Do they have a nice solid bounce back where the buttons are held in place without "feeling wobbly" (I don't know if that description makes sense, but it was how the Lutron Caseta buttons felt to me)? Also, a bit of a side question regarding Fan switches too: I noticed that Innovelli Fan/Light switch looks more like the Lutron Caseta buttons. Do these also feel a bit wobbly? HomeSeer doesn't seem to have a combined Fan/Light switch. Would the only way to control a fan with a light on it going the HomeSeer route require scene settings where single clicks might control fan and then double clicks control lights or something like that? Or am I somehow blind to a combined switch on their product page. Thank you guys so much in advance for your responses. EDIT: Some grammar. I still have more sentences that reads weird. Sorry. Most compact ESP humidity + temperature sensor powered by mains? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 04:20 PM PDT I want to splice it into the mains of the bathroom fixture. I've been looking into Sonoff TH10 + AM2301 + waterproof case, but that would be fairly large and obtrusive having two separate devices. I don't need the relay. Looking for something more compact, ideally in a single case. I also do not want to dig a hole into the wall. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT I have 3 Lifx Bulbs, Kasa plugs, a google home, and the Xfi Advanced gateway. I like to use google commands to turn on and off lights. I currently have the Following apps installed and connected: Google Home, Kasa, LifX, IFTTT, Xfinity Home. I heard xfinity works with smart bulbs but I am unsure how. Can someone inform me how all these work together and If I am using anything redundant in my setup? Google is constantly saying "I don't understand" and I think it may be so to the amount of apps/ names for bulbs I have. Any insight is appreciated! [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:05 PM PDT I've recently moved into a new home with 2 garage doors/openers. One of them has the MyQ logo on the side, but no WiFi symbol which, as I understand it, means I need a gateway to connect it to the network/internet. The other opener does not have MyQ. If I want to get them both connected up with MyQ, can I do so with a single MyQ-Garage? I've seen where you can have 2 sensors with it, but haven't found anything yet that tells me whether it will connect to the built-in sensor. [link] [comments]
Looking for an aquarium thermometer Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:16 AM PDT I'm new to find smart home equipment. The first thing that I'm interested in is a thermometer for my turtle's tank. The ones I have now have been acting up so I'm looking to get one that would be able to be viewed from my phone and get alerts if temperature drops below a certain level. I also want to integrate it to home assistant eventually. I've seen a lot of thermometer's, but haven't been able to find one that suits my needs. Most are ones you stick to a wall and don't have a waterproof probe. Inkbird seems to be the best option, but I haven't seen a lot of info on HA integration, and I also think it needs a bridge to connect to wifi, which I can get if needed but would rather have wifi connectivity built in. Any recommendations would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
Experiences with Alarm.com Home Automation Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:46 AM PDT I'm looking for some updated opinions on the Alarm.com home automation system. The builder of my soon-to-be new home is offering that system through a third party and I can't quite decide whether to go this route or DIY. Most opinions I've found seem to be over a year old. From what I can tell: Pros:
Cons
What are your thoughts on this product? Are there relatively equivalent products out there that I could do after the house is built that offer the same or better functionality? My general HA plan is converting all the light switches, door contacts to trigger lights, temperature sensors with motion sensors to keep the house at comfortable levels no matter what, motorized blinds, and probably some other things that I'll figure out later. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:16 PM PDT I'm a noob here and I've been reading articles here and there. r/homeautomation does not have a wiki, it seems. r/homekit is for Apple iOS users. Some Reddit posts are 3 years old -- so not relevant. I'm looking to automate a few things in our home and would like to learn best practices from experts in this sub. Please brag. What are you most proud of? What would you do different if you were given a budget of $2,000 to automate your home? I have many Apple products and non-Apple products. I'm running Win10 on a MacBook Air. I would like to use HomeKit to automate things, but I'm willing to run Homebridge on Raspberry Pi. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:01 PM PDT I was thinking about getting my grandma a digital photo frame for Christmas and stumbled upon the Google Nest Hub Max. Just wondering what others experiences have been and if it is user friendly enough for her to add/change/ stop alarms, add to her shopping list, etc. She is not super techy. I am also wondering how the photo frame on the Nest Max works? Would all family members be able to have access to the album and add pictures, and then are they automatically added to her frame? Is it like a slideshow so she would not need to manually do anything to change the photos? I'm open to suggestions for other similar devices, or maybe it is just easier to get her a digital frame? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Help with an old magic home led WiFi controller (light strip). Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:41 PM PDT Hey guys, but of a weird one. Basically, my mother bought a house a few years back, moved in and the previous owner had installed led strip under the kitchen cabinets, likely a cheap alternative to under unit lighting... The other day I was above the cupboards sorting out some wiring and I found a magic home rgb WiFi led controller with the image of a mobile phone on it. It looks like an older model compared to the current ones when searched for l, as it has no QR code. Now, I researched it, downloaded the magic home app and sure enough it picks it up. I click the name, now heres the issue. It asks. For a password. Great, don't know that one, so I check dout how to reset the controller. The official website says unplug it at this weird little cylindrical plug thing and plug it back in three times... The issue here is that the previous owner seemed to fancy himself a bit of a budget electrician and he has spliced the WiFi switch to connect to a 12 volt isolator block, the cables themselves for the light strip spliced and merged with other cables, and it seems the only way to reset the lights would be the physical plug switch. I've tried turning that off and on three times, and literally nothing happens. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
safe way of handling current transformers (for circuit breaker energy monitoring) Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:10 PM PDT My setup uses those current transformers with the 3.5mm headphone jacks. I understand that if they're unplugged from the circuit that monitors the current, you could have voltage on the 3.5mm jack. If you're careful not to touch the jack to yourself or metal, is it safe to remove/unplug the jacks from the circuit to do stuff and then re-plug them back in? Is there danger in shorting stuff when plugging/unplugging? Do you pretty much have to turn off the circuit breaker or unclamp the CT before unplugging? There are CT's with built-in resistors. Are those safer to use? How do you tell if your CT has a resistor built in? [link] [comments]
ISO: Connected ceiling fan recommendation Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:51 AM PDT I'm looking to purchase a ceiling fan/light combo unit (small/indoor) with simple google home integration. Would appreciate the community input on what brands work best. My place is currently set up with lutron caseta switches. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
