Has any one had issue with EUFY wired doorbell camera killing their transformers? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:34 PM PST Hi all, I have bought a EUFY wired doorbell camera. I plugged it in, everything was working great, person detection, audio, etc. After one day, the camera was dead, no light, nothing. I used my multimeter and measured the transformer and the transformer was dead. I then purchased another transformer, imagining that my (brand new) transformer was either faulty or broken. I plugged my new transformer to my electrical panel powered everything on and everything was working great again. A few hours later, I checked on my camera and it was off again. Power cycling the breaker doesn't do anything. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:09 PM PST Hi guys! I want to wire mi ring doorbell 2 with a power outlet. I read and watched videos were they use AC to AC transformers to 9V/18V @ 500mA/1A. I really don't know what voltage and amperes you recommend, and some of them don't use a resistor (I think is 25 ohms/50W). ¿Is there a problem if I don't use the resistor? ¿What V/A you recommend to wire it up? (Sorry for my bad English) [link] [comments]

Looking for a smart switch for ceiling light/fan combo Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:32 PM PST Hello all. So my bedroom has a ceiling fan/light fixture. It's not this exact model, but it looks very similar to this, with the pull chain and everything. It uses a single wall switch that has controls for both the fan and the light. The switch is functional, but it's rather old and clunky, and for the longest time I've been meaning to replace it with something more modern. Ideally, I would like to have something with smart features, such as being able to turn the lights/fan on and off, as well as adjusting fan speed, with voice commands or through an app. Basically, I'd like something that can do everything my current wall switch can do, but with voice commands. Here are some photos of the switch. Our house was built in 1987 (we're in the USA). I was looking at something like this on Amazon, but I'm not sure if it's compatible. What other options do I have? Ceiling speakers multiple zones with multiple Echo Dots Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:19 PM PST Hi there, New to home automatisation, here is the set up I am thinking about. Kitchen: 4 ceiling speakers connected to 4 channel amp connected via jack cable to Echo dot Living room: 4 ceiling speakers connected to 4 channel amp connected via jack cable to Echo dot Master bedroom: 4 ceiling speakers connected to 4 channel amp connected via jack cable to Echo dot Question: -Using my cellphone, I can have the entire house play music on all speakers via the Multi Room Music function and that is only if I use a streaming service ( apple music, spotify...) right ? - if I connect my laptop via bluetooth/wifi and play a youtube video, only the room I am in will play music, right? -If I am in the kitchen, can I control the music coming from the master bedroom on the second floor? -Will Alexa be heard on all speakers when I speak a command? Can I control the volume of the room or entire house via voice command? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:55 AM PST This is an overview of my experience with the three RF bridges that I have used. Hopefully, this may be helpful to someone else. For those not familiar with RF bridges, they allow you to control a device by emulating the radio frequency and codes of its hand remote. They basically just copy the signal from your hand remote. They work on the 433 Mhz and 315 Mhz ranges (you'll want to confirm that your remotes work in one of those ranges). The 433 Mhz range is actually 69 different channels. While most devices work on 433.92, some use other frequencies in that range. Because I don't use any cloud-based home automation, I needed a way to control the RF bridge from my home automation controller (ISY-994). There are three RF bridges that I know of; Broadlink RM Pro, Sonoff RF Bridge, and Bond RF Bridge. The Broadlink and the Bond also have IR capabilities. I have used all three. I've listed their prices on Amazon just for comparison. I know that some are available cheaper through direct purchase. Sonoff - $21 on Amazon I would avoid Sonoff. While it may work with some devices, it did not work with any of my shades. It turns out that the Sonoff only works on 433.92 Mhz,. If you happen to know that your devices work on this channel, then consider it. It is a great price. For me, Sonoff now resides in the junk drawer. Because this wouldn't control my shades, I never got around to testing whether I could communicate directly with it from my controller. Likely it would have entailed re-flashing the firmware with Tasmota. Broadlink RM Pro - $49 on Amazon The Broadlink works with most, if not all, of the 69 channels. It apparently also works in the 315 Mhz range. I certainly haven't tested all of the channels. It also has IR (used by most TV remotes). It has Android and IOS apps. I have used the android app and it works well, but it is not completely intuitive and sometimes if a code was not captured, I would have to attempt to capture it as a multi-code (a different process). I have not used the IOS app. It also supposedly works with Alexa and Google Home. I don't use either so; I can't say one way or the other. Although Broadlink does not support a local API for device-to-device communication, some really smart guy created an HTTP bridge to allow a local connection through a Raspberry Pi or an Android phone. Unfortunately, I could not get the HTTP bridge to install on my Raspberry PI but, I had no problem installing it on a spare android phone. Although this solution worked for me, it was rather clumsy. To install a device required that I first add it in the less-than-intuitive Broadlink application, then share it in the network, and then with the Broadlink app still opened, open the HTTP Bridge application and copy the codes into the new app, and then finally connect to the API from my controller. To add to this, I also now had one more device, a cell phone sitting on a shelf, as a potential point of failure. Ironically, limiting points of failure is one of the reasons that I don't use cloud-based solutions. Bond RF bridge - $99 on Amazon. The Bond also works with most, if not all, 433 Mhz channels and works in the 315 Mhz range. It also has IR (used by most TV remotes). It has Android and IOS apps. I have used the android app and it works well. I found it to be far easier to use than the Broadlink app. It was more intuitive and I never had to identify multi-codes – the process was the same for both. It also was able to recognize a couple of my remotes by their FCC signature and then automatically add all of the buttons at once. The biggest selling point for me was that the Bond has a local API, meaning that my controller could talk with it directly. While I did initially have some problems setting up the communications between my controller and the Bond, a visit to the forum on their website gave me the answer that I needed. It's all working well. It also seems to be more reliable than the Broadlink. The Broadlink would fail to activate one set of shades about 20% of the time. Thus far, the Bond has not failed at all. Although I've only had it installed for a few days, I did test it about 20 times. It appears as though the Broadlink and my old Android phone are headed for the junk drawer. [link] [comments]

Alternatives to IFTTT for My Leviton app? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:08 PM PST Hi. I recently got an email from IFTTT that Life360 will no longer work with IFTTT as of Dec. 2, 2020. I currently use Life360 as geofencing for myself and wife to trigger activities (lights on or off) in the my leviton app. Are there any (hopefully free) alternatives to IFTTT where I can control the My Leviton app with geofencing? I checked out Zapier, but they apparently don't support My Leviton app or Life360 app. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish the goal of automating my lighting activities with the My Leviton app? So far as I know, the My Leviton app does not contain any geofencing features, so it would likely require an additional geofencing app. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
roboto vacuum cleaner around 300 bucks, advise? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:39 PM PST We want to wait till black friday to get our hands on a robot vacuum cleaner. Do you have any experience with a "budget" one like the one in the link? thanks [link] [comments]
HDMI to DisplayPort Adapter or Bi-Directional HDMI/DisplayPort Cable Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:14 PM PST Does anyone know of an HDMI to DisplayPort Adapter or Bi-Directional HDMI/DisplayPort Cable? The HDMI port on one of my Samsung ME46B's is, I believe, starting to go bad. I have a 2G Just Add Power Receiver plugged into the HDMI port of my TV. Randomly and not very often, I will turn on the TV and the TV will not detect a signal on the HDMI source. To fix, I unplug the HDMI cable, and plug it back in and the issue is resolved. I've already replaced the cable and that did not do the trick. This TV only has the following ports: DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. DVI is audio only, so that leaves DisplayPort. The issue is that the 2G Just Add Power Receiver has an HDMI out port so I would need an HDMI to DisplayPort cable or an adapter. I've looked and have not been able to find one. Getting into Lutron Caseta, Recommended Dimmable Bulbs Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:50 AM PST Plan on getting a Lutron Caseta system before Christmas, What bulbs would you recommend for dimmability, would any dimmable phillips bulb work, I plan on getting the bulbs at Home Depot & yes I have seen the LED compatibility list that Lutron has, I just want good bulbs people have used & positive experiences for bulbs that work reliably well [link] [comments]
LaView CCTV DVR with Google Home? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 09:33 AM PST I have an LaView CCTV DVR setup (4 channels if that matters). Works fine using their LaView Connect app on our phones. We have a small TV in a relatively high-traffic part of the house with a Chromecast on it and I'd love the ability to cast the Live View to that TV or other devices to be able to have a quick look-see as we pass by. I see LaView Smart listed among the Google Home services. I've been unable to get a login to work yet, but I've never really subscribed or registered with LaView up to this point. I'm sure a call to CS would take care of that. Before I do that I was just curious if anyone out there has gotten this working and what all they can do with it once done. Or, if there's another decent way to cast an IP stream that doesn't involve a 24/7 PC would be great. Thanks! [link] [comments]

How to automate IR controlled LEDs Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:42 AM PST I have bought two LED string lights to put them high around the pool. They have a receiver box that communicates with IR remote control to select different lighting modes, set a timer, change light intensity and so on. Because its IR, it needs a line of sight, and I would like to control them by my phone instead through HomeAssistant or something with all the available functionalities on the remote controller. Any ideas how to do that? [link] [comments]
Can I swap my current lock for a smart lock? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:34 PM PST Hello, I'm as close to clueless when it comes to types of locks and which ones can be converted to smart ones. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:20 AM PST I pulled the trigger and got a two-gang Brilliant control and 10 dimmer switches for my new house. They're like the Tesla of light switches right? What could go wrong? Apparently everything. The control installed no problem. It's annoying the control is needed in the first place as I really just wanted the dimmers to control a series of Hue, LIFX, Nanoleaf and SmartThings devices. But anyways. The dimmers are AWFUL. I've spent two days trying to set these up and they're a nightmare. First, I couldn't get Brilliant to find them at all. I started by writing up two and Brilliant would not acknowledge their existence. It doesn't help their app interface is god awful and it's confusing to figure out how to even manage installation. It takes about 10 steps to even get to the mode where you can find them. If the app decides to let you see it. If you're partway through and installation it always want to take you through a wiring setup, like can you just remember I already did that. After hours of trying the app kept saying "could not create mesh network" or "could not find device". I have strong wifi on 2.4ghz, that's not the issue. Eventually, I got Brilliant to find ONE of the two switches. But it's been stuck in "updating" mode for 10 hours. (It says updating takes 4-6 hours? What even is that?) I tried resetting the other one and it's just sitting there blinking unable to pair. Pretty pissed off since I spent $1000 on this switch system. The control with the touchscreen doesn't do anything my phone can't and the interface is whatever, I can live without it. The idea of having native integration with multiple devices sounded nice but holy hell these switches are defiant. So if you're considering this system for the promise of dimmers look elsewhere, some have been able to be successful but this has been an installation nightmare. [link] [comments]
Zigbee 3.0 chicken coop and thermostat Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:59 AM PST Hello everyone! I recently started to play with smart home. I currently have home assistent and smart bulbs/plugs using zigee protocol. I was wondering for 2 things: 1) Did anyone automate his chickens coop door with zigbee protocol in an easy way for a newbie? The goal would be to open and close the door. 2) Does anyone have a zigbee controlled thermostat? But a simple version. I tried to look it up, but most of them have to much features which i currently wouldn't use, like cooling etc. I would like to replace my old sandoff in my living room with a smart one. Floodlights that are triggered by camera? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:18 AM PST So I've just purchased a couple of Hikvision DS-2CD2085FWD-I and I plan on hooking those up to ZoneMinder. (Btw does anyone have helmcharts for that?) And I'd like to get floodlights that can be activated by the cameras. Everything I'm finding is "sensor activated" and that's not what I want since I now have two super fancy sensors. Any tips? [link] [comments]
Beginner about to move into first house - Basic automation/security Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:32 AM PST Hello, I just purchased a small home and will probably move in within 1-2 months. To prepare for the move, I'm trying to make a list of security features and automated devices to buy that I know I will want. The security is more for my gf who has been working from home and overall is a bit more paranoid about living on the first floor of a building vs the 3rd floor apartment we're in now. I'd be looking for the following things:
Some of my coworkers have the Wyze products and really like them. The prices are very tempting. I was thinking of getting 3 of the Wyze Cam v3, the thermostat, and the doorbell. Originally, I wanted the lock as well but I realized that the deadbolts that come on the door are actually double side locked so it wouldn't be compatible. Reading around the wiki here, I'm now looking at the Yale B1L lock as the deadbolt replacement. I don't fully understand what the Z-Wave compatibility means? Is this what I use to be able to lock/unlock from my phone? Am I on the right track here? Budget is a big concern. Overall our neighborhood is fairly safe and it's more for peace of mind for the GF. Any recommendations on other brands to look at that stay lower in price? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Magic home pro app - timer feature Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:55 AM PST I got a led strip controller who I can manage throw "Magic Home Pro" app. I'd like to get the light on for about 10 minutes and after get automatically it off. How can I do it? I tried to create a scene on the app but seems like it doesn't have timer feature and I also tried using IFTTT but I wasn't able. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:46 AM PST Hi, I'm just looking for an answer in relation to the Harmony Hub vs Hub Elite. Do I need to buy Harmony Elite (hub and remote) or can I just buy the Hub which is over €200 cheaper and operate everything with my phone? Am I missing something? Does the remote brings any functionality that the app doesn't offer? [link] [comments] |
