Launched: IR remote for smart home as you want it to be. Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:14 AM PST We already made some posts about our project. Thank you for your support, questions and comments! Now LOOKin Remote2 launched on kickstarter. Retail device price will be $59, but we offer discounts during Kickstarter campaign. We tried to collect all our experience with various IR devices and prepare a device that we, as smart home enthusiasts, liked:
Our universal IR remote works over Wi-fi. We also plan to add support for BLE Mesh in mid-2021 Device is powered by Micro-USB (500 ma) or 4xAA batteries (Up to 2 weeks work). Since the release of Remote1 in 2019, we've worked hard to collect feedback and prepare a new version for release. If you are interested in a product, you can check its Kickstarter page for more information. Or ask questions / requests / comments here. We will be happy to answer. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:54 PM PST Hi, I just installed two gen 4 August locks. I would like to the act of locking one lock to automatically lock the other lock, and the act of unlocking one lock unlock the other lock. I would have thought I could have used IFTTT to say if 'lock 1' gets locked, then lock 'lock 2'. But his doesn't seem to be allowed. Does anyone have any alternative ideas to synchronize my locks? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Best smart switch with dimmer and motion sensor Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:38 PM PST I recently purchased my first home and am working to make it smart. I also have 2 C by GE switches with dimmer and motion sensor. I have been trying to connect them to my wifi network but have not been able to (using unifi controller). Ive done some research and it seems like I might want to switch to a different option. I've also heard the C by GE line up doesn't integrate with Home Assistant (I will be migrating soon)? I have a neutral wire, but no ground wires. Not ideal, but it'll have to do. Should I abandon these GE switches before committing fully? If so, what are good alternatives? I have found: Inovelli (Red series) Lutron Maestro WeMo (I dont think they have a motion sensor option?) I am also interested in what kind of additional products are in the line up and what additional hardware is required. I would like to use the same switches and plugs throughout the house if possible. Any thoughts or recommendations would be very much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Is bond the best controller for non-smart items with remotes? (Fan, TV, etc) Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:33 AM PST I have the bond in my amazon cart rn but noticed a few others like the broadlink. Does anyone have experience with bond or others that can help? I am running everything through my alexa rn so i have a pretty basic setup. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:58 PM PST I have a Hubitat and a Remote tec zwave dry contact switch for my fireplace. I have it connecTed to Alexa to "turn fireplace on" and "turn fireplace off". When I command to turn on, all is good and I get "ok" - fireplace turns on. When I command to turn off I get "sorry, fireplace not responding" but it still shuts my fireplace off. What's up with that? [link] [comments]
You can add Sonoff devices to the SmartThings app soon! Posted: 17 Dec 2020 12:35 AM PST eWeLink has obtained the Work with SmartThings (WWST) certificate and is paving the way for a quick path for certification for all device makers working with eWeLink. The integration with SmartThings is a milestone to eWeLink's mission to work with everything. eWeLink team keeps breaking boundaries of different home automation brands and devices, to empower cross-brand interoperation and cross-platform interaction. 'The collaboration between eWeLink and SmartThings is great news for both eWeLink users and SmartThings users.' said the eWeLink R&D team. "Consumers will find it as easy as pressing buttons to connect with the SmartThings app and to control their devices in the SmartThings app seamlessly. " SmartThings consumers will have a wider range of choices of smart home categories and home automation devices. It is also more convenient for Samsung users to build a fully interconnect and interoperating smart home. On the other hand, eWeLink devices become compatible with the SmartThings app, allowing users to leverage the advantages of both apps. MyQ doesn't work with IFTTT with multiple devices. Any work arounds? Posted: 17 Dec 2020 05:39 PM PST I've had my garage door setup with MyQ and IFTTT for sometime. This allows me to have a routine to close my garage door automatically at night and allows me to close the garage door with Alexa. It's been great. Last week we changed our gate to be an automatic gate. It is also a liftmaster controller and I was easily able to add the gate device to the MyQ app. However, IFTTT only shows my garage door as an option (I've deleted and re-enabled everything). I even tried Google assistant with MyQ, but it has the same issue. Anyone have any ideas for how I can set routines for my gate or to voice control it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Dec 2020 10:45 AM PST Hi all I'm looking for a single hub which can control all of these protocols in one...does one exist?
Thanks! [link] [comments]
This is how I've finally installed Aqara door sensors on my sliding doors Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:49 AM PST Much easier than I thought (I asked about it in this post). The doors, when closed, do not get to touch the sensors. When they're opened completely, they don't hit the sensor on the other side. The magnets have a really tight space but, still, if placed and aligned at the right spot, they don't hit anything when the doors are closed. Of course, you have to put both the sensor and the magnet at the same height, and then the sensor does detect the magnet when the door is closed. I'm so happy! [link] [comments]
IR remote through gosund through Google- scenes only work for one user Posted: 17 Dec 2020 04:04 PM PST We have a IR remote connected through gosund and then through Google. We made the scenes in gosund and set it up through my Google account/gosund account. It did not allow him access to the scenes, as they are tied to me. We made another gosund account for him and it somehow managed to duplicate half our lights/plugs, randomly, with no apparent pattern of which it duplicated or why. I deleted everything today to get rid of the duplicates and put everything through just one gosund account. Everything works except the TV. Google says "I don't know how to help with that" and there are no scenes in the routines setup, even though he can use my other routines. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Is the any point to Somfy TaHoma? Posted: 17 Dec 2020 03:13 PM PST Hi, we just installed new wireless blinds with Somfy motors. Is there any point in getting the TaHoma hub? I want to be able to control my blinds using Siri and Homekit and later add as many smart home "stuff" as I can... how will the TaHoma help me with that? I've read pretty bad reviews on it, but if there is no other was to control the blinds I'll get it. I'd actually like to know, if there will be any other use to the TaHoma. [link] [comments]
Outdoor Motion-Sensor LED Floodlights Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:14 AM PST Does anyone have a favorite make/model for a quality, outdoor LED floodlight fixture with motion sensor. I apologize because this isn't really an r/homeautomation question, though I will use a z-wave wall switch to control power. Basically, I'm replacing several old incandescent fixtures that don't have a motion sensor. I know i could use z-wave sensor and/or camera with event to trigger, but I need to replace the fixtures anyways, so i want fixtures with native motion sensors (I don't need to track when they go on and off, it's just so my old dog can see to go up and down the outdoor steps). Thanks. [link] [comments]
Best energy monitoring plug with an open api? Posted: 17 Dec 2020 11:17 AM PST Hi all, I'm looking for an energy monitoring plug, similar to the ones here: https://www.androidcentral.com/which-smart-plugs-are-best-monitoring-energy-usage In particular though I want one with an API I can use to monitor the usage, and it would be *especially* cool if one had an API that could be set up with a sort of web hook, so that, for example, if I have a dryer plugged into one, it could make a call to an endpoint I set up when the dryer turns off, and I can have a home assistant say "cleaning finished" or something like that. Obviously I can use polling to monitor the device to achieve the same thing, but that's not as nice. I'm also open to "home wide" solutions that hook into the circuit board itself, but I currently haven't found one of those that has an open API either. Thanks for any help here! Solution for close lightning strikes Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:05 AM PST Long story short, I've had equipment fried due to nearby lightning strikes. Twice this year. I have to manually unplug things when lightning is near to prevent damage. Please, for the love of all that is holy, don't derail the conversation immediately with telling me a whole bunch of solutions like whole home surge protectors and stuff. Very much appreciated, but I can use Google, I promise. I'm curious if anyone could give me tips on how to put together a system that tracks lightning reporting systems and flips a breaker if lightning is detected within a certain distance. Cheers. Ideas for rotating knob through 180 degrees please? Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:31 AM PST I'm looking for a home automation solution to rotate a knob through 180°. It's a plastic knob of 25mm diameter. Rotation speed is not an issue. It can take minutes to do the 180°. Resolution is also not an issue. If I can only stop it every 30 degrees or so, so six or seven positions overall, that's fine. I've been looking at reversible DC motors that have a built-in gearbox. I would drive this from an Amazon Echo controlling a Sonoff RF Bridge sending signals to a a 433mhz controlled relay board, in order to turn the motor in either direction. I would only have the crude timing resolution of 5 seconds offered by Alexa routines. For example, if a full rotation takes 1 minute, 5 seconds would approximate to 30 degrees. I realise that this would almost certainly result in drift (because the 5 seconds you get from Alexa is only very rough), so I would need limit switches, and a routine to drive it to one end or the other, to reset its position occasionally. Firstly, is there a better or easier way of doing this please? I don't want to get involved in a microcontroller project. And secondly, how do I transfer the rotary drive from my controlling device, which would have to be mounted about 500 mm away in the vertical plane? I imagine some sort of pully or sprocket wheel, clamped on, or around, the existing knob. Or a rubber band? Edit [link] [comments]
Using an A21 smart bulb instead of R20 Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:14 AM PST The ceiling fan in my bedroom takes R20 projector light bulbs and I'm looking at putting in smart bulbs, the main issue with that is I can't seem to find any R20 smart bulbs In the rest of my apartment I put in A21 Smart Life bulbs and really enjoy it (even where there previously was A19), so I'd prefer to just use another set of those bulbs for the bedroom if at all possible, since I don't want 2 different apps on my phone for controlling the lights. I have lights grouped on Alexa, but I like having the ability to use my phone as well Would using an A21 instead of the R20 be an issue? I know there's a potential fire hazard/potential to break the bulb if you use it where it's not compatible. If not, are there any R20 smart bulbs? [link] [comments]
trouble setting g up Ring bridge Posted: 17 Dec 2020 04:00 AM PST hi, I am setting up a Ring bridge to use with some Ring smart lights. I go thru the start of the process, my phone connects to the bridge and then it hangs and never connects to my wifi. This is my 2nd brand-new bridge and the same thing is happening. the blue light flashes and then I cant get any further. any help? [link] [comments]
Problem flashing Sonoff ZBBridge (MD5 of file does not match data in flash) Posted: 17 Dec 2020 01:35 PM PST I've been trying to flash the Sonoff ZBBridge for the last couple of days and I keep getting the same error about an md5 mismatch. Logs from Tasmotizer (1.2.1) below, I tried it with the Release and Development tasmota-zbbridge.bin (9.1.0 and 9.1.0.2) but I keep getting the MD5 mismatch error. I just flashed a Sonoff S20 with the same setup so I think the cabling, etc are ok. After the first couple of times I flashed it I tried to power it on via usb and I got a brief flash of the green led but the last few times I power it on I get no LED flash (I do get the green LED when flashing). The ZBBridge is v1.1 if that makes a difference. I posted this in r/tasmota yesterday but didn't get any suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Are there any Thermostatic Radiator Valves that can be controlled Posted: 17 Dec 2020 05:00 AM PST Hi I have built myself a complete home heating controller using a small windows 7 PC, all coded in visual studio. which controls my zone valves and boiler. It's all hard wired and the room thermometers and controller use the onewire system. The only thing I would love to be able to do is to have wifi zwave or zigbee controlled TRV's which would give me much more control. If that is not possible I would like to use a hub of some sort that I could use to communicate with the TRV's . Is there any system out there can communicate with TRV's at all? [link] [comments]
