Any coffeemaker with grinder that works through Zigbee/Tuya? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 03:08 PM PST As per title, a machine that grinds and makes coffee controlable through Zigbee or Tuya. Does this exist? If not, maybe one compatible with IFTTT? Closest I found are machines that work with their own android app, but that means I can't integrate them in my wake-up routine and have to program them separately (and probably forget and have cold or no coffee). Posted: 10 Jan 2021 01:48 PM PST Unfortunately have to ask a question.... In the market for a decent, but reasonably inexpensive leak sensor. Would probably get 3 of them to cover the garage (water heater which was the culprit), washer area, and kitchen (sink/dishwasher is in the same island). I'd rather not have another wifi based app so probably Z-wave/Zigbee but am willing to entertain if there is a standout. Normally this week I would troll the floor at CES and ask questions but not planning to do much trolling of the virtual floor this week. I've done the standard search and found "the best X of 2020 and 2021" and its all over the place as usual. Some are like the Vivint, or the Smarthings, or the like. They also look like they run on the small watch battery, rather than rechargeable so that seems easy enough to deal with. But any standouts out there? [link] [comments]

More Sonoff devices work with SmartThings? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:03 PM PST Hi folks, We noted that there are several devices that currently do not support SmartThing. Google Forms Link > https://forms.gle/p6btJSkFjdYCJXMAA Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
ELI5: How do I KNOW that google home/voice audio can’t be hacked or used with malicious intent? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 01:53 PM PST Technically speaking. Say you audibly said your most critical account numbers or passwords to a loved one. Or stated some personal information about someone that could he used to hurt or take advantage of them. I have always accepted the privacy for technology sacrifice but home automation takes it to a whole other level. Would love to hear from those with technical background and people that have worked worked in home automation and this felt like the most helpful reddit :) [link] [comments]
Putting obsolete devices back to work Posted: 10 Jan 2021 05:39 PM PST I have Fox& Summit lights and plugs. That vendor is no more and devices are not usable anymore. Is there any way that I can use those devices? For example maybe with Hass.io? Or removing the wifi chip and repurposing it? I appreciate if you can send reference links? [link] [comments]
How can I upgrade this in wall cassette/fm radio to in wall tablet? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:20 PM PST I want to upgrade to touch screen and bluetooth to integrate bluetooth and my google to the speakers in my house. I already tried a bluetooth adapter to rca in the back of this thing and the signal was very weak. The wires leading to power on the back of this thing is labeled 18 VAC. Could I just use a car radio? Please let me know any suggestions. Attached is my unit [link] [comments]
Google to turn off all lights in a home Posted: 10 Jan 2021 03:00 PM PST I used to be able to set my porch lights to a separate house called "Porch Lights" and I would just say "OK Google turn on the porch lights" and it would work. Recently, about 1-2 weeks ago, this stopped working and now Google wants me to list the device by name. Is there a new way to phrase this that still works? This is a huge annoyance for me. Now it just says "sorry it looks like that device hasn't been set up yet". So if I had a second home, how would I turn off all the lights? I have to say each room one by one?! How do people with more than one home control the lights? This is what I get when I try to turn off the lights for a home called "interior" (name doesn't matter) [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:57 PM PST I am thinking about getting a Shelly 1 to use to control the power button on my pc, but I was wondering if there was a way for the Shelly to know if the pc is on? I was think maybe somehow with an energy monitoring smart outlet that tells the Shelly that the pc is on if the wattage is over a certain amount. Would something like this work? best automation for a large house, especially light color control Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:32 PM PST I'm building a 4BR, 3900sqft / 362sqm house and I need to figure out what to do for automation. TL;DR: What automation system is best to control all my lights/devices for a large house? It must be able to change the color and brightness of lights based on the time of day. Current lighting In my current condo, the color and brightness of almost all the lights in the house changes based on the time of day. It's full brightness during the day and slowly, over the course of hours, changes to a dimmer and warmer light. This is so nice, it's super comfortable in the evenings throughout the house. It's so much better than having dimmers everywhere because it's done automatically. Next, motion sensors turn on the lights in the the entry, halls, bathrooms, and kitchen, and they turn off automatically after some time. If motion is detected for a while, they stay on a bit longer after there's no motion. I'm so spoiled by this, at other houses I sometimes walk into a room expecting automatic lights. When I built out the condo, I had all the lights hardwired always on and there's not a single hardwired switch. I use dresden elektronik wireless stick-on switches in a few places, eg near the bed, entry, living area, and to turn on the bathroom fan (uses a ZigBee plug, turns off after some time). I use a Raspbee2 ZigBee controller (200 devices max) to control everything rather than the Hue bridge (63 max). I wrote my own software to communicate with the Raspbee rather than trying to cobble something together with terrible mobile apps and IFTTT nonsense, so it works exactly like I want regarding motion timers, color transitions, what happens when I press a switch, etc. For kicks I used an RPi and optocouplers to simulate button presses on the remotes for my AC and shades. I love having central control over everything! For the new house The general consensus seems to be that Lutron is rock solid while Hue works most of the time, and that Lutron is for large houses while Hue is OK for smaller setups. I'm sure to exceed the 200 devices supported by the Raspbee, though I could use multiple. Controlling the color of the lights is very important to me, so much that I won't use a solution unless I can control the color (and brightness of course). I admit it seems a little crazy to hardwire all the lights in a large house, like in my the condo. I'm not against using hardwired smart switches, but I need color changing too. I assume Lutron is better at integrating things like HVAC, pool lighting, and shades, whereas that would all have to be cobbled together with Hue. Is it a thing to use both Lutron and Hue/ZigBee? How does that work? Lutron has so much marketing garbage, it's difficult to get any real information. I will end up talking to a Lutron installer soon, but I want to be well prepared. Lutron also seems very proprietary and I'm worried I won't be able to control it easily from my own software. Am I on the right track? Is there something better to consider? I am happy to budget any amount needed to do it in the best way (though I won't light money on fire needlessly). [link] [comments]
Simple IFTTT action (Amazon/TP-Link), how to? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 01:27 PM PST I'd like a smart plug to turn off whenever a smart switch is turned on. Both of these devices are TP-Link Kasa and have been in use/linked to Alexa app for years. Btw, I don't care what happens in any other variation between the two devices (i.e. plug on, plug off, or switch off can all have no effect relative to each other). When I try to set up a routine in the Alexa app starting action using a "Device" it tells me there are no devices - yet when I go to devices tab I see all of my devices. Is this a known bug, or should I try relinking everything? Also, IFTTT (which I've never used), doesn't seem to pull up KASA or make it obvious how to create such an action based on switch/plugs states. I feel like I must be overlooking something very obvious to get this simple action implemented. Advice much appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Real smart home automation without commands Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:55 PM PST I am not able to find a good source of information for creating a truly "smart" home. Most smart house guides and videos I see are based around creating a house full of devices that need commands to function properly. To me this is not a smart house or automation at all - just overengineering the way of controlling dumb devices. So far my "smartest" automation is detecting whether someone is home or not by using the "wasp in a box" model (https://smartisant.com/research/presence/index.php#wasp). (Really the only good place for information I have found). By combining door sensors, motion sensors and detection of devices on my home network this works very good for almost all scenarios. Of course, it's nice to turn off all the lights with the push of one button, but it's not smart. How do you implement truly smart automations that work in all scenarios and does not require buttons/commands? Is there a collection of "truly smart automation" somewhere? [link] [comments]
Best smart LED bulb that can rotate specific colors? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 10:37 AM PST I would like to replace my boring porch light with a smart LED bulb that I can change with the holidays. For example Christmas fade between Red/Green, July 4th fade between Red/White/Blue, etc for other holidays. Can anyone recommend a high quality bulb that you can rotate between specific colors? My research shows that that functionality isn't well documented or only does rainbow. WiFi is preferred, but bluetooth or remote is fine too. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Question to SwitchBot Bot users Posted: 10 Jan 2021 10:35 AM PST Hello! What kind of battery does a switchbot bot uses? And how long does each set last? I'm assuming the device must be using a servo motor for the push/pull operation. Doesn't that eat away the battery very fast? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:12 PM PST I use Google assistant voice commands to communicate with my dyson fan, but when I've just set up routines for Google to turn off and on my lights when I'm leaving and entering the radius of my apartment, there's no option to do this with my dyson. Does anyone know why or have a workaround? I have a super inconsistent routine and would love for it to automatically turn on as I come close to home [link] [comments]
Question on wfi led light bulbs, clock and protocol? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:17 AM PST I have some wifi led bulbs that work with the Gosund app and have them scheduled to come on at 5pm, along with raspberry pi that plays a sound at 5pm. They seem to start roughly together, but up to 20 or 30 seconds apart. Does anyone know what clock the wifi bulbs are using for their scheduling? Also, is there a way to tell what protocol wifi bulbs use? I have some that use the Gosund app, and some that use the Smart Life App, but I'd rather use the Gosund app for everything. Is there a way to identify which bulbs will work with Gosund? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:05 AM PST What are good indoor cameras? I have Blink outdoor cameras so initially thought about the indoor/mini from them. But I am skeptical that, even though they say they won't, they might spring a subscription on existing customers. Other things that exist in my house is Home Assistant, Alexa, and Android phones, if that matters. Thanks! (Oh, the cameras will mainly be for monitoring a doggo) [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:21 AM PST Hello 👋. Hopefully this will make sense, so bare with me! I am planning to install 12 lights on my stairs. Unfortunately the driver for them only has 6 connections so I will need 2 drivers meaning 2 wall sockets. I was planning to get a smart plug from IKEA and use their motion sensor, one for the bottom and one for the top of the stairs. Because I will need 2 smart plugs, will that mean I will need 2 sensors at the top and 2 sensors at the bottom of the stairs? Seems a bit overkill so hoping there is a simpler solution. Thanks in advance 🙏 [link] [comments]
Please help me find this part: low voltage wire hiding plugs Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:07 AM PST Hey I'm trying to find the name of this part. I've seen in new construction homes where low voltage wire was ran for future use (speakers, access points, etc) and in the ceiling they hid the wire with a white plastic anchor that had a metal loop on its backside to hold the wire. The plastic was pushed flush with the ceiling so that that later the owner or a future installer could pull this plug out of the ceiling with the wire attached to it, detach the wire and complete their install from there. Can someone please tell me what this part is called? I've been searching for the past hour with no luck. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Buying Zigbee 1.2 devices is a dead horse? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:39 AM PST Hey together, i am currently using zigbee2mqtt with a 1.2 coordinator. I would like to buy a bunch of aqara temperature sensors right now but the old model WSDCGQ11LM which does not have zigbee 3.0. Is it a dead horse to buy these? Or are they still usable in a couple of years if zigbee 3.0 is in use? [link] [comments] |
