    Remote smart thermostat?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:10 PM PST

The thermostat at my girlfriends place is in the horribly insulated living room but the bedroom is quite a bit warmer. At my place I have a Lyric Round and I like the features such as geofencing and control through the app. What I'm looking for for my girlfriend is a thermostat that I can mount in the living room but with a remote wireless temperature sensor to keep the bedroom at a comfortable temp. Does such a thing exist?

    Simulate Button Press on IC

I am trying to figure out how to simulate a button press on these three circular parts of the circuit. Could this be done with a raspberry pi and some soldering?

    Routine not working as intended

Looking for an alternative to IFTTT: webhooks that trigger Alexa routines

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:24 PM PST

I have some smart bulbs that 1. Aren't HomeKit compatible 2. Don't have an Apple Watch app

I've already used my 3 free applets for IFTTT that I use in Shortcuts on my iPhone/Apple Watch, triggering an Alexa Routine to turn the lights on (there's a bit of a delay but it seems to work fine most of the time)

Are there any other free alternatives out there that can do something similar so I can have more webhooks, or am I limited to the 3 I already used

When I looked online I could only find Alexa routines that triggered webhooks, not the other way around

    Zigbee Thermostat & HomeSeer

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:46 PM PST

Hoping someone familiar with Homeseer can help me get unstuck.

I'm trying to setup my first Zigbee device (Sinope TH1300ZB). I just installed the zigbee plug-in and learned I need to add the Nortek dongle to complete my plugin setup. Okay- ordered on Amazon and will arrive later today...done. However, I'm noticing on the Zigbee driver setup page it says to "install the drivers onto your HS4-powered Windows 7, 8 or 10 system."

Since I have a HomeTroller PI, my OS is linux, not Windows, I'm confused by this. The product page for my device says it is zigbee compatible so it should work? If it does, how do I go about installing the driver onto the device? Am I correct that I need to install the driver onto the HomeTroller Pi device, and not my windows PC that I use to access the Homeseer web interface?

    Smart Sump Pump Monitor?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:57 PM PST

    Howdy all!

There was a similar post about 3 years ago, so I'm hopeful there's something newer out there.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/5yftk3/is_there_anything_in_the_market_to_monitor_sump/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

I just had a brand new SuperSump Plus installed and I'd love to know when it's working, that it's working, water level, or if power goes out. I plan to have them install a battery backup, too.

I saw this smart plug on the Home Depot website, but don't know about quality. The rest of the house uses Ring Security/Z Wave.

cox panoramic modem/router will not let me connect more than 49 devices - need solution to add up to 100 devices

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:19 PM PST

I was adding new echo dots and shows to my network....the first few connected without a problem. But the next one could not connect to wifi. I checked my Cox wifi app and the gateway says 49 devices are connected. if i disconnect one device and forget it on the cox wifi app, i am able to connect a new device but cannot connect anymore devices on my network until i repeat the disconnect and forget a device..

How can i solve this? is the problem the COX panoramic modem/router. Maybe it cannot handle that many devices connected. What modem/router can handle 100 devices at the same time.

or will one of the ubiuiti access points solve my problem...can the ubiquiti accesspoints connect to the cox panoramic modem/router?

Help wiring Shelly 1 to sliding gate opener

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:54 PM PST

    Hey guys,

Looking for some help to wire my shelly 1 to a sliding gate opener. I've seen the youtube videos and guides but they are all for garage doors. I don't see the option to connect the cables from the gate motor to the shelly. I've attached the manual (from page 55)

Will be using the 24v output on the motor to power the shelly as it is quite far from the house to get a DC adaptor. Is it also safe if I use a magnetic reed switch if I connect it straight to the 24v from the gate motor?

Attempting to make my 2.4GHz LED ceiling light SMART...

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 01:45 PM PST

Edit: Imgur link for gallery of photos taken of the controller and the LED driver

    https://imgur.com/gallery/L1RUrBn

Recently purchased a home and bought four of these LED ceiling lights. I did it semi quickly and didn't realize I'd be shooting myself the foot later on. They are non switch dimmable because they have a controller built into the driver module. The controller can receive RF 2.5GHz messages from a remote that came with the lighting units. Options include on/off, dimming, and color warmth. The PCB seems to be WW/CW or CCT 3 wire design. I am looking to add wifi likely via an ESPxxxx of some type.

    1. I've considered finding another driver/controller like this...

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tuya-Smart-Life-APP-WiFi-WWCW-RGB-RGBW-RGBCCT-LED-Strip-Controller-For-Alexa-/124307977925?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

    Or....

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Zigbee-DC-12-24V-RGB-WW-CW-2-4G-Wireless-LED-Strip-Lights-Controller-Dimmer-/363238396444?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

Which can be flashed with Tasmota but I don't believe will work because the LED driver I am seeing in the light looks like it is constant current and variable voltage and not the other way around. (Please let me know if I am wrong on this)

    1. I've looking down the SDR sniffing black hole and I think I have the ability, just not the time. Even after spending all the time I still might not figure out the proper reg values and what ever custom protocol this manufacturer uses. I haven't given up totally though because the remote transmitter is super basic and only has a single 16-SOP an a 16MHz oscillator. The chip label seems to have been sanded off but I found a PDF to another chinese knockoff kit that seems to include something similar but the trail runs cold.

Here is the PDF I found...

    https://attach01.oss-us-west-1.aliyuncs.com/IC/DIY-Manual/13280.pdf

    https://www.icstation.com/mobile/txrx-channel-remote-control-wireless-transceiver-module-robotmotor-p-13271.html

    1. My final option is strap a ESP8266 to the remote and control the inputs that way. The style of the buttons will make it a little annoying but still doable. Where I shrink back is I have 4 of these lights and I'd need to wire up 3 independent remotes to control each area independently.

    The lights I bought below...

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GL2KBVM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_S55P6DYA4KFWKWK883YY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

TLDR: lights aren't smart enough to talk with my Hubitat. Trying to figure out a work around. Stuck between reverse engineer remote or just frankenstein an ESP8266 flashed with Tasmota up to the remote to control the lights.

Just praying someone has an idea I haven't thought of yet or that I've missed something major and there is an easy fix.

NUC/"Mini PC" for running HA, Plex, cameras etc.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:50 AM PST

I am looking to migrate from some Raspberry PIs and virtual machines running on my iMac to a small server. I want something where I can test and play around with it. I don't have a rack, so looking for a mini PC I can connect to ethernet and use for:

    - Home Assistant + Node-RED
    - Plex, Storage in external drives, for now, will add a NAS later. For streaming to Firesticks.
    - Later: cameras, I will buy 2 exterior cameras soon.
    - Some testing, torrent, own python code, etc. Different things for learning.

I was thinking to set it up with a few virtual machines, then run docker inside of a VM. I think it will make sense to run i.e. all HA stuff in a VM, Plex in a VM, and have one or 2 more VMs for testing different OS and playing around. I'm a beginner in all of this, but I already use docker for programming/dev environment.

    I found this one (It's from Amazon.es, so the product ID might be different from US spec): Intel NUC NUC7I3BNHX1 i3-7100U 2,40 GHz Negro, Gris BGA 1356 - Barebón (7ª generación de procesadores Intel® Core™ i3, i3-7100U, 2,40 GHz, 14 nm, 15 W, SO-DIMM)

Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks in advance 🤜🤛

Any home routers that have cellular backup?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:57 AM PST

Hi! We're doing some home automation in a remote cabin we own, and the existing telco Internet access is a bit spotty at times. We'd like to make sure we don't lose feed to the place ... and there is a modest amount of cellular signal we can get at the location ... are there any home broadband routers that have any type of built-in failover from wired broadband to cellular?

I've seen this in some commercial grade networking gear - I think some large retail chains use something like this to make sure their POS systems are always connected to the "mother ship". But I've never really seen a consumer-grade edition of anything like that.
