Merkury wifi smart camera help please Posted: 17 Feb 2021 08:59 PM PST So I just bought this camera from Walmart earlier today. Have it almost set up. And it says it has a firmware update. But when i go to upgrade it. The damn thing doesn't do anything. It has a bar on the screen like a loading bar but it doesn't fill up. Been stuck like this for an hour now. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]
How important is home shade automation? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 06:24 PM PST Getting shades installed in my home. I was able to secure a good deal with Norman Soluna shades, and one thing I wanted was to get smart blackout shades in my bedroom. That way I could wake up to the shades automatically lifting and sunlight, rather than an audio alarm clock. These shades are motorized but they don't have automation capabilities. Curious if there's any way to get automation functionality somehow. I'm thinking of going Home Assistant route (but possibly HomeKit). The other option is to go Hunter Douglas which does have smart blinds with robust integration options but costs significantly more. What are your thoughts? Were smart shades in the bedroom worth the extra cost? [link] [comments]
Anyone finding the Zooz 700 series much slower? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 08:17 PM PST I have a few Zooz Zen switches (26/27) and very happy with them, but they are very thick so installation is a bit of a pain in crowded gangs. I recently decided to buy my next ones as part of the 700 series (Zen76/77), which seemed like the same product but thinner so installation would be easier. To my disappointment, the physical toggle switch has a 1+ second delay. What's odd is that through Z-wave commands it is instant.. anyone has any ideas? [link] [comments]
3 Gang Switch: Lutron Caseta & Shelly 1 Front Door Lamp Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:32 PM PST I've got a 3 Gang Switch: Slot one has a Lutron Caseta Dimmer controlling the room lights, the second slot is a standard switch for the front door light, the third slot is another standard switch for an outlet. Can I wire the Shelly 1 to the second slot / front door light with the Caseta in there as well? Should I instead wire the Shelly 1 to the lamp itself, rather than the switch? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Feb 2021 05:57 PM PST I'm looking for a cost effective way to make our existing window blinds smart. They are the type with horizontal wooden slats. All I want to achieve is to adjust the angle of the slats to different preset positions. I don't need for the blinds to be pulled up or lowered. We have two different kinds of blinds -- those that have a wooden stick (or wand?) that needs to be turned to adjust the angle, and those that have two strings/cords that are used to adjust the angle up or down when you pull one or the other. Happy to supply additional information if needed. I live in the U.S. if that makes any difference in the suggestions. Also, I currently use Home Assistant with Z-Wave, Zigbee & Tasmota Wi-Fi devices. So any solution that can be integrated with that would be preferred, but I'll keep an open mind. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:57 AM PST Hello, homeautomators! I wish to buy one of their products, but I can't find any valuable info on if broadlink (rm 4 for example) devices can learn the long press? I have a stove that can be turned on and off only if you long press the button (3 sec) Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:56 PM PST Hey y'all! I'm preparing to move into a new house by September time frame, so I'm doing some research to see how I can make my home as smart and automated as possible! One thing I can't find good info on is smart roller shades. The only one I know of is the IKEA one that connects to Google Assistant, which is exactly what I needed. However it only comes with certain precut sizes. Anyone know of other good brands that I should look into? Really nothing too fancy, I just wanted it to connect to Google so I can set routine and control it by voice. I did try to retrofit my old ones prior with SOMA. It's not bad, but not good either. The performance was very inconsistent to the point that sometimes they won't even connect. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Automating House Air Exchanger Posted: 17 Feb 2021 12:03 PM PST I am looking for a way to automate/connect my HE Broan house air exchanger. I would like to at least schedule when it runs. Ideally, I want it to turn on based on humidity/weather and have it tied into homekit and/or Ecobee4. The Ecobee4 is the current thermostat on the main level, which unfortunately already controls the humidifier, otherwise I would use that. It's currently controlled with this in the basement. Broan does offer a programmable controller but it's $170. Are there smart low-voltage switches? Or I have thought about installing another ecobee4 thermostat in the basement. [link] [comments]
Water Main Shut-Off Valve Survey Posted: 17 Feb 2021 09:39 AM PST Question: With all the stories this week about pipes freezing and bursting throughout Texas are there any success stories about automatic water main shut-off valves successfully working? So many of these devices are about peace of mind and rarely tested in real life. This week in Texas seems like a perfect test case. I did a quick search but didn't see any posts about success stories, or catastrophic failures. For example, I was thinking about the Dome Home Automation Water Shut-Off Valve https://www.domeha.com/z-wave-water-main-shut-off-valve. [link] [comments]
Aeotec Wallmote Switch Cover plate Posted: 17 Feb 2021 05:25 PM PST Anyone have any recommendations for a cover plate that I could use to mount and cover up the existing switch location with the WallMote? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 05:21 PM PST With the brutal cold we've been having - I'm looking for some wifi or zwave temp sensors that I can monitor temperature in various places around the house (near pipes, shed, garage etc) from my phone. Anyone know of anything [link] [comments]

Phillips Hue Hub or Lutron Caseta compatible Posted: 17 Feb 2021 09:08 AM PST I am looking to add an outdoor smart plug and would prefer one that is compatible with my Phillips Hub preferably - Lutron Caseta Hub compatible is ok too. I prefer to use the hub approach so I can create groups etc... plus both hubs and associated devices are already fully integrated into my Google Home. from what I gather zigbee compatible may work z-wave will not. Foolishly used a standard Hue Smart Outlet needless to say the weather was not kind to it. Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Feb 2021 10:16 AM PST so I'm really new to all of this. i googled it for a few days but I'm stuck. i wanna control a few relay modules using my esp8266 (or any other way to turn on and off the lights) using WiFi. i don't want to use a web interface and i don't really know how to program my own mobile application. so i thought it'd be best to use Google home app. but i couldn't find out how to do it properly. and how to do it for multiple houses. i wanna do it for my entire family but i can't go to their house and set it up and code there and use their phones. i want a simple way as if they bought a smart switch and connected it to Google home in less than a minute. i found smartnest and gbridge but it's only free for very very few devices. i want to control the whole house. any help? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 10:02 AM PST My main question is are roombas worth it? I mean I'd be willing to pay $300 if they have huge quality difference over offbrand smart vacuums. What's y'all's opinion? [link] [comments]
Need help with programmable LED lights Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:44 PM PST Hi all, I'm looking to make LED lights a feature in my new apartment. I'd like to do so with a Raspberry Pi or Arduino. The idea is basically to program different strips of LED lights all hooked up to a single Pi wirelessly. This Pi will also have a microphone attached to it to receive audio commands. Ideally, the Pi can also sync music playing to the lights but that's not a serious requirement, just an added bonus. I can handle the software part of this project but I'm not sure on how to the hardware. Is the a guide I could find somewhere? [link] [comments]
Looking For Cheap Lidar or VSLAM Vacuum Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:39 PM PST I'd like a robot vacuum that can map an area based mostly on the quality of its sensors. Specifically, I'd like it to quickly map what's ahead of it, or the entire area. So I think I need either Lidar or VSLAM tech vacuums. I'd also like it to cost under $250. I haven't read much good about those gyro-optics navigation vacuums. Are there robot vacs that save cost by making the user manually map out their house? I wouldn't mind trading that little effort for a pricing discount. Can someone explain how the navigation on this cheap one works? Any recommendations will be welcome. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Looking to make the switch to a new system, and can't decide! Help me Please! Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:38 PM PST So I'm currently just using a few phillips hue light bulbs here and there. I'm looking to make the switch to something else since I have some free time. My problem is, I'm your average consumer who doesn't know diddly squat about a lot of this stuff but wants to learn. I'm looking at a few system: Smarthings, Home Assistant, Openhab, and the products offered by Google under their nest line. I've read about all the good things of each, but I want to hear the problems. I'm cross posting in a few other places so I can get a more robust picture. So I wanted to ask a few questions specifically as it pertains to your setups. So 1) First I want to know what are the major problems you see with the platforms out, including what you use, specifically how easy it was to learn and how flexible it is for adding new devices and integrations? 2) Does your current platform require a lot of maintenance? As much as I would like to just stick this on a raspberry pi, I know that I like to add things and so I can see myself having 80 devices plus a bunch of integrations. 3) Are there a lot of tutorials out there to show how to navigate the interface and install things and troubleshoot, and are they easy to find? 4) How is the documentation for what you use? Is it up to date, and easy to read? Or does it pre suppose (not sure the word i'm looking for) that you know how to get from point A to B already? 7) Is there TOO much information out there and is it sometimes hard to find the correct information? 8) Any other feedback on problems or issues you see with the platforms out there or home automation in general. Thank you!!!!!! I appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
