Can i have more than 1 switch to control the same light? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:47 AM PDT I need your help, I bought several Zemismart Tuya zigbee 3.0 switches for my home and everything is working great except in one room: the hall. This is because I have 3 sockets on the walls, I can turn on the hall light when I enter (switch 1), next to the bedrooms (switch 2) or the kitchen (switch 3). What happens is that when I turn on the light on switch 1, for example, it turns on, then I turn off on switch 2, it turns off, but when I go back to try to connect to switch 1 it no longer turns on (I have to go to switch 2 to work) Is there any solution for this? Can i have more than 1 switch to control the same light? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Mar 2021 10:06 PM PDT Hi, Today I physically installed the switch in question, however, while configuring the Meross app to my iPhone the process failed. But, the switch is connected to wifi and operational with Google home. My question is does it matter that the switch is not available in the Meross app? Second question, can these switches work with a different app, namely the Tuya Smart app? I would like to use simple commands to trigger the switch when my doorbell is pressed. suggested smart external blinds uk Posted: 15 Mar 2021 12:42 AM PDT Hi, I live in the UK, I've been looking for a decent exterior blinds that I could control from local network. I was looking at somfy solutions, but for some reason their uk offer is really poor. It's quite difficult to find any decent alternatives. Can someone suggest any smart external blinds available in UK? Thanks [link] [comments]
(HVAC) Smart vents WITH smart dampers??? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:27 PM PDT Apologies up front if this has been asked before. I just discovered this sub and it's my first time, be gentle. 😊 So we just replaced and upgraded our HVAC system in our home. As part of the upgrade we had smart dampers installed, creating three zones in the house. The reason we went that route was there was a pretty significant temperature swing between the three floors of our home. Unfortunately, due to the way the ductwork was run originally and modified during a previous renovation upstairs, the main trunks going from the unit into the house are not by floor - one trunk is the master bedroom area (upstairs), the second trunk is the remainder of the upstairs, and the main floor AND bottom floor (downstairs) is the third trunk. We had the smart dampers installed with that configuration, as doing it any other way would have required gutting the house. Each zone has its own EchoBee thermostat. In the week we've had the system installed, we're having much the same problem we were having before (namely, the bottom floor is considerable colder than the main and upper floors), and now we're having new problems to boot (when the main floor is comfortable, the upstairs (non master bedroom) is a sauna). So long as we keep the master bedroom door closed, that zone stays right where it should be so no problem there. So after ALL that, my question is this - would installing some smart vents be an effective means of evening things out between our wonky zones / floors? Can you even use smart vents in a system that has smart dampers? Tried googling the question but had no luck at all - so here I am. 🤷♂️ Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can offer. Problem booting HomeAssistant? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:15 PM PDT I forgot my main admin password for HomeAssistant, and decided to reboot it as directed in a HomeAssistant web forum. So, I rebooted the device (Raspberry Pi 4LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 Starter Kitwith Pi 4 Model B 4GB RAM Board, 32GB Micro SD Card) with a keyboard and monitor connected and logged in as root. I then got called away for a few minutes and on my return the screen was filled with repeating messages: mmc0: card never left busy state mmc0: error -110 whilst initializing SD card Over and over, with occasional message like EXT4-fs error [device mmcblk0p8]: __ext4_find_entry:1531: inode #131221: comm python3: reading directory Peppered in there. Some initial Google searches suggested it might be SD corruption (sanDisk Ultra 32Gb) and it might be worth starting from scratch. Since I wasn't very far into the configuration, it seemed like a worthwhile suggestion. So I burned a new version using Balena Etcher using https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/download/5.12/hassos_rpi4-5.12.img.xz recommended for Pi4 4gb. And booted to log into root. And, same error message (I was away all weekend and it just spewed them out). Any suggestions? I'm alright in Linux but by no means a Linux + Hardware expert. On a tangent note, I've noticed some articles that cold reboot of a Pi 4 is hard on the SD card. Is there a way to wire in a "reboot" button to save my SSD from getting munched?? TP Link Kasa Smart Switch Question Posted: 14 Mar 2021 03:25 PM PDT Hi, in my room I have 2 light switches and 4 lights. One switch controls 2 lights, and the second light switch controls the remaining 2 lights. How would I install the Kasa HS200 with this? [link] [comments]
Garden Automation Discussion for Engineering Project Posted: 14 Mar 2021 08:45 AM PDT Hi! So I am a student in the UK (studying in sixth form (age 16-18)) and I am exploring different areas for an engineering project that will form a large proportion of my final qualification. One of the areas I am exploring is Automation in Gardens. I thought that It would be best to get thoughts on it here. I was wondering about the following: So if anyone could shed some light to my questions then I would be very grateful, Also if I anyone is willing to have a one on one chat on this matter then I would highly appreciate that too!
Thank you if you answered these questions! [link] [comments]
Bathroom Smart Mirror On A Switch? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 08:22 PM PDT Evening all, I just ordered in a smart mirror for my bathroom that I'm renovating, and after ordering it, I realized something: I don't know if this was ever designed to be switchable. So basically, the way I had have my bathroom set up, the smart mirror, which has an LED light strip around it, was going to be plugged into a recessed outlet that is wired to a wall switch. It has a standard 110v wall outlet plug and is not hardwired, which leads me to believe is was designed to be controlled from the mirror itself. But I don't know if switching/powering this off will cause it to lose all of it's settings (it also has bluetooth music and wifi weather connection). Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before? I've tried contacting the manufacturer but haven't gotten any response. Link to the mirror I ordered is here. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Any indoor security cameras that allow viewing of 2 streams at once in their app? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 08:10 PM PDT I have a nest camera which has been decent, I'm looking to get more cameras but would like to be able to view 2 camera streams at once. The Nest app does not allow this, so I'm hoping to find a system that does. [link] [comments]
professionally monitored smoke detector Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:36 AM PDT I'm looking to put together a system that includes a smoke detector, a smart lock for the front door, and security cameras and motion detectors that are professionally monitored. I am open to a DIY install, but I need it all to be monitored while I am out of the country / off the grid for extended periods of time. What would you recommend? [link] [comments]
Alternative to Google/Nest wifi Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:59 PM PDT I've had Google wifi that I've upgraded to nest wifi for about two years. I have a nest router and extender as well as two google pucks. Since the fall of last year I consistently drop smart home products and it seems to be a rotation of products that lose connection. Anything from Lifx bulbs to wyze cameras to my smart hub. I've finally had enough and am ready for a change. What do you all recommend that is a solid wifi mesh system that can handle 500 mbps download and keeps everything connected. [link] [comments]
Can I get lights to turn on after opening front door? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:33 PM PDT I have TP link hs200 switches for lights, and eufy smart lock. Both of these devices work with Amazon Alexa. Is there a routine or something I can setup using an app or whatever, to have lights turn on after the front door is opened? [link] [comments]
How do smart home services like Alexa and Google Home interact with devices on the network? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:10 PM PDT I've been interested in isolating my smart home devices (outlets, bulbs, etc) to work only on a local network.
This got me thinking about how exactly these services send commands to smart home devices in the first place. Are there resources that explain how these services structure commands to smart home devices? Bonus Question: This is a complete shot in the dark request, and I also don't know yet what to "white-list" to make this work.. but is there a way I can use iptables commands in a way that blocks all internet access while allowing a small handful of approved IP addresses or domains? The bare minimum to be approved to make Alexa commands at home still work. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:58 PM PDT Has anybody had experiences using the Grid Connect System with Google Home? I am planning to change all of my 'dumb' light switches over to the Grid Connect switches to enable me to use my Google home to control all my lighting. I am in Australia and would be buying the switches from Bunnings. Has anybody got some feedback for me? Is there a better alternative in Australia? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Mar 2021 01:53 PM PDT It seems to be, from what i can find, that Samsung is no longer making sensors, etc? Which, explains why they've been perpetually out of stock at Amazon. . I thought the would be one of the long-term vendors that would stick around.. I see that the Aeotec stuff is compatible with the Smartthings hub, but HOLY HELL they're expensive! Makes me just wanna migrate to a different brand's ecosystem. If I did want to migrate, how's Aqara? Anyone else have recommendations on brands? [link] [comments]
Tilting solar panel lock ideas Posted: 14 Mar 2021 01:38 PM PDT Hey guys. I have a campervan and I've put sun tracking solar panels on the roof. They work on a linear actuator and some sensors. I want to lock them in place when I need to drive a long way, the actuator does a good job but I'd love any ideas on remote locking mechanisms. The requirements are 12v DC power and low power consumption as I'm on battery power. I've thought about push pull solenoids but can't find any ip65 rated. Any help would be awesome. Posted: 14 Mar 2021 07:31 AM PDT Hi, I already have a decent amount of smart devices in my apartment (mostly lights but also other things) and all from different brands/DIY builds. Currently I'm building a new living room lamp and it will add 6 smart bulbs to my set up. As of now all of my devices cinmect directly to my router and I was thinking if a WiFi hub would be a better solution to lift some load. After some research I didn't really find a hub that supports all kinds of smart devices and hasn't a speaker installed. Could anyone help me out in this regard? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
