Can HomePod Mini output audio through USB? Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:39 PM PST I'm considering getting a HomePod Mini, but one of the cool features of my Nest Mini is that I can cast audio to my Vizio soundbar or my Nvidia Shield....I'm wondering if it's possible to get a usb-c to usb-a dongle and plug the HomePod into the soundbar to power it and out but audio via the soundbar. Thanks for any feedback. [link] [comments]
New to Home Automation. How do I get started with zero experience? Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:24 PM PST Ideally, I would like a display dashboard in my living room showing all my smart automations in one page. I would like it to show battery status of all members in the household, ability to turn on/off lights, weather and room temperature. In the future when I get indoor cameras and Ring doorbell, I want it to be able to be controlled by the iPad home automation dashboard. I have an Intel NUC and an old iPad mini which I can use. How do I get started? I don't have any programming experience and want to create something very simple and minimalistic. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Smart Lock Front Door Question Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:53 PM PST I have a front door to my house that is a basic deadbolt top lock and a handle bottom lock. Is there a smart product out there that can work with both locks or is it better to just get a smart lock for the deadbolt and change the handle to something that doesn't lock? If I go with option 2, is there a security risk for just one type of lock for the door? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:39 PM PST Hi all, I'm buying an older home that has a garage door so old that it's one big door that ONLY opens manually (doesn't "roll" up along the ceiling). One of my first projects will be to finish out the garage and install a new garage door and motor. Since I'm primarily using HomeKit to control my home, I want to install one that will require the least amount of extra things plugged in to make it work. I'm looking at a fairly plain Wayne Dalton insulated steel door and the Insignia - Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller for Apple® HomeKit.....but what is a good, compatible chain drive garage door opener to sit in between those two things? Most of what I see online assumes that you already have a garage door and motor that you need to automate, but I'm starting from scratch. Insignia WiFI controller compatibility: https://connect.bestbuy.com/gdc/gdc-compatibility.html#craftsman Also, if there is a better way to do this, I'm open to that too. I'm comfortable with HomeBridge, but I'd prefer to leave out that extra step if I can avoid it. [link] [comments]
Notify when the laundry is done using current transducers and a Digi XBee3 Posted: 13 Mar 2021 10:14 AM PST I'm too lazy to use the stairs to check on my laundry when I can't hear the alert on the washer and dryer (they play a tune when done). It would be nice to be notified. Sounds like a good project! Goal * Monitor the washer and dryer to get the current state as "on" or "off". * Notify when the washer and dryer transition from "on" to "off". Non-goals * Avoid any modifications to the electrical circuits of these high ampere/voltage appliances. * Avoid using a wireless (Z-Wave etc) switch (outlet plug) with power sensors. I was especially worried about using a wireless plug with a 240VAC (US) dryer circuit. Solution I use a Digi XBee3 Zigbee module with 12-bit ADC pins reading current transducer (CT) voltage output. The CT sensors are split core and attached to the washer and dryer circuits in my home's electric circuit breaker panel. The Github link provides Micropython code for the XBee3 and example code for reading an XBee Zigbee coordinator collecting the sensor data. I include an analysis of the data and how to detect the thresholds for state transitions. I also discuss integration with Home Assistant using an MQTT broker. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:36 PM PST I connected this remote to my HA hub using a zigbee stick, and it worked great, I programmed it to control multiple rooms, great little remote. The battery died and I took too long to change it, and now it won't work with the hub, I can connect it, it will work for a few minutes and then later will not give any sign of life. I have connected it to a single lightbulb in it's dumb mode and it works flawlessly, but it won't work with the zigbee stick, I tried several times to restart it and reconnect it. iPad 2 - iOS 9.3.5 - Home Dashboard? Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:41 PM PST I would like to re-purpose an old iPad 2 with iOS 9.3.5 as a wall mounted "home dashboard" sort of thing. I am not really looking to control home automation but rather have a bunch of different info widgets.... News feed Is this even possible? If anyone can provide any tips as to how I may achieve this, I would really appreciate it!! My first thought was to jailbreak the iPad and use a whole bunch of home-screen widgets (which I can make with HTML, JavaScript, css, etc.). Thanks all! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!! What is the best way to wire a shelly 1pm with a FCU Posted: 13 Mar 2021 10:53 AM PST Hi I have a Fused Connect Unit (UK switch with fuse) for a bathroom towel radiator. I want to make it smart and have a shell 1pm relay, should I wire it before or after the fuse? My understanding is I should not wire like a normal switch as this would make the fuse not worm correctly (as it would just go via the relay) [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:42 AM PST Seeing a lot of videos going around about flic buttons. They look pretty cool BUT I have one big question that I can not find the answer to. Can the button clicks toggle things. So simple example is can single click turn on hue lights to a certain scene and then if you single click again it will turn the lights of. For the household to appreciate these this would be a huge plus as telling someone single click for lights on and double click for lights off is just not gonna go over well. [link] [comments]
Smart thermostats for high voltage baseboard heating? Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:40 AM PST I am in the process of rebuilding the house I just purchased and it has baseboard heating using high voltage Honeywell thermostats. What would I need to do to wire a nest or is there a thermostat I can get that works? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:33 AM PST We are just starting the process of building a new home. My last house was hobbled together mix of SmartThings, z-wave and other sundry things without any planning. Now I want to do this right without having to worry about the up-sell vendor lock-in that I'm sure will be thrown my way. What I need is help/advice on what wiring to have put in, devices I should plan for etc. pretend I don't know anything... eli5. Yes I know there is lack of detail here... some things I know I'll want:

Xiaomi water tap not working properly Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:55 PM PST I have a Xiaomi water saver tap adapter. It works fine in my bathroom. Worked fine in my kitchen for about a year. Now suddenly the tap adapter doesn't hold the water back when it's off and when i put my hands in front of the sensor it gives the same amount of water pressure as when it's supposed to be off. I charged the battery. It still happened. Water comes through even tough it's off . I bought a new device. It worked for 2 weeks. Now it's the same problem.. quite weird. I have no idea what the problem might be and find it strange it worked for a year. My dad checked it out knowing more about this stuff then me. He didn't find anything wrong. Any ideas , maybe from experience? [link] [comments]

Controlling 2.4 Ghz Devices - aka Dimplex Connex Baseboard heaters Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:32 AM PST For heat In my vacation property I'm using Dimplex Connex baseboard heaters and have started digging into the protocol used to control them. First thing I identified was that they are operating on 2.4 Ghz, which currently does not have the same level of support as 433mhz based devices. And obtaining and connecting receiver and transmitter modules to an ESP is a bit limited. But after opening one up, I identified that is using the commonly available NRF24L01 Chipset family, which is widely available from the usual sources. And after a bit of time spent investigating and coding I managed to reverse engineer the protocol and control my baseboards. For folks interested in the technical details, take a look at this https://github.com/NorthernMan54/OpenNRF24L01/blob/master/Docs/connex.md [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:47 AM PST I am looking for Wi-Fi extender bulb for my house. The best solution would be without any other adapters, etc. (e.g. adapter with Ethernet connector). I have one lamp with normal bulbs for E27 screw and I have to change 2 bulbs because I can control both of them with wall switch. In my house I am using Domoticz software with ZigBee gateway based on CC2531 adapter so bulbs can be controllable via ZigBee or Wi-Fi (i can try to make plugin for Domoticz). It would be great if I could control white color temperature (I don't need RGB etc.). Can I buy somewhere solution that I'm looking for? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:43 AM PST Hey there, I've been using various Mi-Light products over the years and it's obviously a little clunky from time to time, but what do you expect considering the price difference. Right now I have a place where I control 3 different Zones over the WiFi Box2 and FUT038 Controllers. These are integrated into my WiFi 1 is a LED Strip for indirect lighting below the deck in my garden. Question: Does anyone know if there is a special trick to make the timers work? In the Mi light App I can set separate times for the Box and single controllers to turn on/off but I am either too stupid/there is a little "trick" or it just doesn't work. Just wondering if some of you might have used that already, since my Google research was not really successful. Cheers! [link] [comments]

Anyone ever used iHome’s motion sensor? Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:42 PM PST I just got my sensor yesterday, but I can't connect it to wifi for the life of me. Switched to 2.4 GHz, even tried different batteries, a different phone, different router, and resetting wifi. Anyone have similar experiences/advice? [link] [comments]
Home assistant and Hubitat, Z-wave tracks on/off status, Zigbee don't Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:40 AM PST Edit: Turned out to be my own fault. All my IoT devices are isolated on my network so they have to be explicitly allowed through the firewall in order to communicate. The port that home assistant listens for POST updates from Hubitat changed, it just happened to coincide with me migrating all the Zigbee devices. I allowed all ports for now and the status update works as expected. I'm using Hubitat as a "radio" for Home assistant so all the Z-wave and Zigbee devices are paired with Hubitat. Home assistant then uses the API and gives me a pretty dashboard. I have a bunch of Ikea bulbs which was previously paired with the Ikea hub and controlled through the home assistant integration but due to the bulbs going dormant, I paired them all up against Hubitat instead. When I turn off a Zigbee bulb from home assistant, the indicator goes off for a couple of seconds and then turns on again. The physical bulb turns off as it should. This is consistent for all the Zigbee bulbs. Hubitat reports correct status of the bulbs. Everything Z-wave works as it should. I can't see anything of use in the logs on any of the devices so I'm not sure where to start, Hubitat, the integration (plugin) or home assistant? Which is more likely to be the culprit or which end would it be natural to start? [link] [comments] |
