Why do all smart doorbells look like circa 2003 cellphones? Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:03 PM PDT I've had a Skybell HD for the last 3 years. It's complete garbage and never functions correctly. That and the company appears to be going out of business. So, I'm looking for a replacement, but every smart doorbell on the market looks like an ugly old cellphone. Are there any decent options out there that aren't completely atrocious looking? [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Mar 2021 11:01 PM PDT Hey guys, So I have a motion sensor and a door sensor that I ignore when I am in home mode on my ring alarm system. We let the dog out this door so we don't want to have it armed when we are in home mode. Anyways, we took the dog out around 2am and I was trying to look at the logs in the event history for both the glass sliding door and the motion sensor. Funny thing, it looks like when I am in home mode armed, with the sensors both ignored, I don't get any event history. I'd like to be able to log all the times we open that door, even if being ignored in home mode. Any ideas? Is this just a feature oversight? [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Mar 2021 06:30 PM PDT Hi all! I just moved into a house that has a conservatory. The heating is disconnected from the central heating and it has its own radiators that run on a wireless system from loggia. It works fine, but I want to make it smart! Unfortunately, the loggia system is kind of old, but I'm thinking I can do something with the radiator wall switches. For example, keeping the heating on 24/7, and then setting up a time schedule to turn on/off the radiators by the mains (rather than on/off via schedule from the loggia system). Here is one of the switches: Could something like these work? https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087RJ6BR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_DRRNRHR8CYPX9H9PWDRZ https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WK1H4Q6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_MXXQZ0SQ72VKXMDC4B8S Not sure if there needs to be a fuse in the switch like the current one. Or maybe there is a better way I can do this. Any guidance would be great! [link] [comments]

Routines with time schedule do not work Posted: 20 Mar 2021 06:11 PM PDT I just created multiple routines using Alexa app and my Echo Dot to turn lights on and start music at sunset and specific times. However the times came and went and none of the routines triggered by time were actioned. However I can trigger the routine directly from the Alexa app but it's like the app can't get the clock times or know when sunset is. I created similar routines in my Sengled hub for specific scheduled times for the lights and they worked fine. This is very frustrating as I expected to write many more routines for actions and triggers only in Alexa but apparently they will not work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. MyQ video not showing on co-owners device Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:49 PM PDT I just replaced my garage door opener a new chamberlain garage door opener with the built in myQ camera. On my myQ app and Amazon key app it shows the garage door and camera, but my wife's (set as a co-owner) myQ & key app, it only shows the garage door. I can't see any place to "share" the camera in either myq app or hers. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:24 PM PDT know this has been asked a billion times but I am having a lot of trouble finding a definitive answer on Reddit and elsewhere. Can I synchronize Spotify music to my single Hue Bluetooth light? I don't have a bridge. Thanks guys [link] [comments]
Broadlink RM3 mini VS RM4 mini Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:11 PM PDT Hi, I have an broadlink RM4 pro, want to get a mini to go with it for another room, it seems the specs look exactly the same (except for the temperature reading with an attachment, but I dont need that anyway). Should I spend more for the 4 or spend half and get the 3 if they do the same thing? Thanks [link] [comments]
SonOff D1 - Has anyone a schematic of this? I'd like to use the buzzer. Posted: 20 Mar 2021 01:19 PM PDT Hi, So while support for Tasmota is relatively new, it seems to work fine. The issue is that no one seems to have bothered sussing out the buzzer. A controllable audible beep would be quite useful in the area my D1 is in. Does anyone know how this is wired to the ESP on the D1 (or if it even is)? I tried turning on all the GPIOs individually, but I got no joy. Wondering does it need a PWM signal. EDIT: It's unfortunately controlled from U3, which means it probably needs a serial command. I've put a comment on the git regarding this. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:00 PM PDT Hello everyone, My family and I are getting two new ACs soon. I talked to the cooling tech who is selling them and he said he bought an ecobee but it has too much temperature variance. He got the ecobee light and said his AC is a bosh with 5 stage inverter and "smart features" built into the compressor/system before the thermostat is involved. Long story short he strongly discouraged me from buying any of the smart thermostats like nest or ecobee. However, everything I find online is mostly rave reviews besides a faulty/damaged unit upon delivery. Does anyone here have any real objective data or first hand experience? I was nervous to fully trust the rep for a multitude of reasons. Not to sound too judgemental but he is selling me something and idk his margins. So I'm not sure if me buying my own thermostat and installing it myself hurts his bottom line. Also he seems like a classic "less tech is better, easier to fix.". Even though in my mind having more tech can both save money and allow remote management so I can turn off our ACs remotely or back on to cool the servers if they start running too hot while we are out of town. I can provide much more information but I always seem like the techs of various installers/service companies from AC, heating, to contractors always try to force me towards cheaper stuff or less well made stuff because they make more money on it. I'm just skeptical. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Mar 2021 04:59 PM PDT Just wondering if anyone has used a Shelly 1L on fluorescent tube lights before. I have two 35w tube lights (with starters) in my garage and have now fitted two Shelly 1L's both initially work correctly via app and or via manual toggle switch. Yet on one occasion I had call to isolate mains supply to garage to do some other completely unrelated wiring jobs and on reapplying power tv the garage the wall light switch where the Shelly was fitted went pop and the smoke escaped. I replaced the Shelly with another brand new unit, again all working correctly via app and via manual light switch wired to Shelly. over a period of say 10 mins I tested for correct operation several times via switch and via app and all of a sudden this one on switching on decided to go bang in a big way and tripped out the garage and house electrics in the process. I have other 1L's running led bulbs and never had an issue, so even though they state support for fluorescent bulbs I am wondering why two have gone up in smoke on the space of 24 hours. Needless to say i won't be buying any more Shelly's for the time being [link] [comments]

Best SIM for a backup home network Posted: 20 Mar 2021 10:44 AM PDT I'm interested in creating a cellular based backup home network for when my ISP is having issues and cuts my internet. I'd like a SIM card that doesn't charge a monthly rate and instead only charges for the data you use. Have any of you found something like this? (I'm in the US) [link] [comments]
How to detect manual roller shutter closed Posted: 20 Mar 2021 03:57 AM PDT Hi, I have roller shutters in my house (the ones that roll down on the outside, behind the window). Those are manual, which is okay at the moment. However I would like to automatically detect if a shutter is up or down to turn on the lights. Has anyone tried to do that yet? All my searches for shutters are to make them smart and close automatically. I suppose it would be possible with laser / ultrasound sensors or something of the like. Bonus points for any ideas that are inexpensive, small, battery driven and Zigbee / Mqtt. [link] [comments]
Reliable and Advanced occupancy detection Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:54 AM PDT Wondering what people with advanced home automation systems are using for occupancy detection. I've been through a few of the commonly available Zwave options and here's my experience via Home Assistant. I'd love to find a way to use some of the more advanced occupancy detectors that commercial vendors are rolling out such as Lutron LOS W Series or the LOS C Series uses Ultrasonics along with PIR to detect occupancy. Both are wired, but in some instances that would be worth the trouble. Who is making a pro-grade z-wave occupancy sensor?

Posted: 20 Mar 2021 07:42 AM PDT So I recently got my detached garage connected to my network and straight away ordered the parts to automate my garage doors following the hook ups video. If your not familiar it uses a shelly 1 to simulate the button push. We have two garage door openers, the ancient craftsman that is probably 20 years old worked perfectly and is up and running with the shelly 1. However the newer one a craftsman cmxeocg231 wont work with the shelly. It has four poles instead of two and looks like it uses some sort of encoding between the button and the actual opener which the shelly cannot simulate. So short of buying a new garage door opener any one have any ideas. I am considering buying an extra button compatible with this opener and opening it up to see if the shelly can be wired into that but I am worried that might be beyond me. I am open to all ideas [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Mar 2021 11:13 AM PDT So my neighbor's decided to create some sort of Zen retreat in their backyard and have a trail right on our property line that random people come to meditate on. I want to piss them off. what I want to do is create some sort of motion sensor that detects when someone is walking on the trail and then play some really obnoxious music. How do you recommend I go about doing this? [link] [comments] |
